Over the years

P I N A

can count up to donating over approximately

85, 000 spectacle frames,

medical items in worth of more than Rs. 55 million,

being involved in over 10 construction & renovation projects,

being actively part of the renovation and running of more than 3 orphanage projects

1, 550 wheel/ walking chairs collected from Europe, Japan and other places,

400 pairs of clutches,

2,200 tents and a variety of quick aid after the Tsunami disaster

&

a variety of items and basic necessities to enable needy people to survive!

Activities in 2011

  PINA, upon request by the staff of the main Colombo Fort train station, which is used by approximately 150,000 people a day, donated a wheelchair to be used for disabled people using the main station. Previously a broken 20-year-old wheelchair was in constant use.

 In an initiative through the Naval Association in Trincomalee to build a house for a destitute 10-headed family, PINA contributed some basic furnishing for the house in the form of beds and mattresses for the parents and their ten children.

12-03-2011 Upon invitation by the Manager of the Bank of Ceylon in Panadura, PINA provided 50 bed covers to be handed over to the Dehiyaththakandiya hospital. 
 
20-02-2011

PINA extended a helping hand to a family-father in the Trincomalee region suffering with Kidney disease, by providing financial means to receive life-saving medical treatment.

 
19-02-2011 PINA, together with Swarnavahini and Janasarana, visitied the Trincomalee region to contribute the collected essential goods to flood-affected people, which were distributed to approximately 500 families from a variety of ethnic backgrounds in the villages of Muttur, Nilapola and Thopur. Additionally the Base Hospital in Muttur also received essential medicines for treatment.

During the process of collecting and packing the dry rations and essentials in Colombo and distributing these donations in the East, PINA was assisted by Rear Adminral Jayanath Colombage, Commander Norther Naval Area of Sri Lanka and more than 150 naval soldiers. PINA would like to express its most sincere gratitude to them for their selfless work in these under-developed areas and readiness to help.

07-02-2011 By initiation through PINA, in association with the TV channel Swarnavahini and project partner Jansarana, collections for donations in the form of dry rations and basic essentials for the 300,000 destitute people in the flood-affected regions in the East of Sri Lanka were called for from the general public.

PINA and its well-wishers were also able to contribute 2,000 Euro worth of goods for the initiative.

The Suwanetha Eye Hospital, initiated and built by Dr. Soma Edirisingha, in association with the Lions Club and Janasarana, held its soft opening ceremony. PINA, as a project partner, donated medical equipment in value of 1.8 Million Rupees such as eye sight measuring equipment and a Lensometer.

Activities in 2010
With the beginning of a new decade PINA will continue to be involved to better the lives of Sri Lankans and carry out humanitarian activities.

For the last few months we have also donated around 10 wheelchairs to various needy persons all over Sri Lanka.

For much of the year we were involved with our Children’s Village, where the young boys are provided with a loving home and a good education.
 
27-12-2010 Deshamanya Dr. Aruna Abeygoonewardana visited the Ampara and Inginiyagala post-war regions to find out about the quality of life and needs of destitute people in the region.

PINA renovated the kids pay-ground at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s hospital in Colombo, which provides 1,500 beds for sick children, and provided rubber carpets for it. At the occasion PINA also donated 150 bed sheets and over 300 child toys to the children sending the Christmas season at the hospital. Dr. Soma Edirisingha also attended this function on behalf of Janasarana.

Upon invitation by the Gangarama temple PINA was able to travel to Kataragama to donated toilet sanitary equipment to Buddhist temples in underdeveloped areas in the region.

26-05-2010 Monsoon rains in Colombo displaced a large number families, PINA with Janasarana organised the donation of about 2,000 food packets for these temporarily displaced families in the Wattala Hunipitiya areas.

21-05-2010 PINA celebrated the Vesak Full Moon day with the children at the HappyDigits Children’s Village, where the kids had created beautiful Vesak lanterns and spent the day in a religious manner.
 
09-05-2010 10 Sinhala-English Dictionaries were donated by PINA to ten students at the St. Anne’s Shrine in Kaththimahana, Dunnwalasuriya, upon request.

13-04-2010 The Sinhala and Tamil New Year was celebrated in a small but traditional style by the PINA board members and the children at the HappyDigits Children’s Village.
 
01-01-2010 The Chairman of PINA-Hilfe fuer Sri Lanka e.V., Mr. Klaus Biemann, from Germany paid a visit to Sri Lanka with his son to discuss on-going and future PINA projects and visit the children at the HappyDigits Children’s Village.

05.01.2009 200 used spectacles were handed over to the Panadura Police upon request, to be distributed in a village in the Bandaragama District.
   
17-02-2009 On request of Mr. Jagath Angage, Western Province Chairman (SLFP) 125 spectacle frames where handed over for schoolchildren in the Kalutara District.
   
21-02-2009 PINA, in a joint venture with long-term collaboration partner Janasarana, travelled to Badulla to launch and promote Janasarana’s special heart fund (Punarjevi project) in this region.
   
23-02-2009 Some spectacle frames were handed over to the Manager of Bank of Ceylon, Super Grade in Panadura to be distributed to children in the Ampara District.
   
24-02-2009 PINA extended a helping hand to a woman in Panadura, by the payment of charges for a Cataract Operation.

13.03.2009            PINA, in both Germany and Sri Lanka, designed a new logo as part of his 20st anniversary campaign to re-introduce PINA to the public.

01.04.2009 A Sri Lankan expatriate from the United States commenced a voluntary position at the HappyDigit’s Children’s Village in teaching English and looking after their welfare. PINA is extremely thankful for this generous commitment.
   
02.04.2009 Upon initation by the PINA – Sri Lanka Chairman, Deshamanya Dr. Aruna Abeygoonewardana, Janasarana met with the Honourable Minister of Social Services and Welfare of Sri Lanka – Lionel Premasiri to commence an aid program for the Internally Displaced Persons camps in the North of Sri Lanka.
   
05.04.2009 PINA and the children of the HappyDigit’s Children’s Village travelled to Bandaragama to take part of the Sinhala & Tamil New Year Festival activities and distribute donations for their price giving.
   
09.04.2009 100 toys to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital  in Colombo by PINA for their small patients.
   
14.04.2009 The children at the HappyDigit’s Children’s Village celebrated the Sinhala & Tamil New Year in traditional style with Avurudhu competitions, song and dance together with well-wishers, members of PINA - Sri Lanka, school friends and as well villagers from Delduwa. The children performed very well and everybody had a joyous time.
   
01.05.2009 The boys in the HappyDigit’s Children’s Village celebrated Vesak traditionally, with the building of Vesak lamps and spent the day in a quiet religious mood.
   
15.05.2009 PINA, in collaboration with Janasarana, travelled to Kandy to collect gods for the IDP camps in the North of Sri Lanka.
   
03.06.2009 PINA handed over 2 tents for families in the Kalutara district, who had been affected by floods and had lost their shelter.
   
07-06-2009 In a joint venture with Janasarana, PINA conducted an Eye Camp in Pilimatalawa, in the Kandy District.
   
15-06-2009 Janasarana, together with PINA conducted a Eyecamp near Embilipitiya.
   
27-06-2009 Joint with Janasarana, PINA donated toys and books to the Temple Punayawardana Ramaya, located by Bandaragama.
   
04-09-2009 The Annual General Meeting for PINA – Hilfe für Sri Lanka e.V. was held on this day in Erlangen, Germany, where projects and activities were discussed. An unanimous decision was made to continue current humanitarian projects in Sri Lanka in the future.

31-10-2009 Dr. Abeygoonewardana attended the Janasarana Heart Fund Walk in Colombo on behalf of PINA, to promote the Healthy Living to prevent diseases and to spread awareness on the Fund amongst the public.
   
22-11-2009 An Alms Giving was hosted by a member of the Public at the HappyDigits Children’s Village for 25 Buddhist Monks with the HappyDigits kids, PINA - Sri Lanka members and about 300 invited members of the Public.

27-11-2009 Hon. Deputy Social Minister Lionel Premasiri visited the HappyDigits Children’s Village. The kids received him well and the Hon. Minister was very pleased with the overall surrounding and the children’s welfare.
